We are seeking donations to ensure that there are enough funds to cover the costs for our next two events, which we hope to hold this year.

New stretch target

For fourteen years, The Space has had many great guests from the arts, particularly from film and music, at various intimate venues in Brighton. At over ninety events, we have hosted insightful and sometimes inspiring interviews with audience Q&As.

It’s probably fair to say that running the events for fourteen years is quite an achievement, especially with having such impressive guests. A lot of time, energy and stress goes into planning and preparing for the events, mainly by founder and host Wayne Imms. He is highly knowledgeable and passionate about the arts and entertainment, as well as a highly experienced interviewer. It’s felt that The Space is a unique event that has certainly given a lot of pleasure to many people.

Any donations to help us during this time, until we can resume our events, would be much appreciated.

Former guests include –

Radiohead’s Philip Selway, Fatboy Slim, legendary actor Terence Stamp, Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, comedy legend Barry Cryer, acclaimed actress Maxine Peake, film director Mike Leigh, Noddy Holder of the band Slade, comedian Frank Skinner, film director Alan Parker, Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters, writer and actor Mark Gatiss & DJ, musician and artist Goldie.

Some other former guests are listed below.

Our rescheduled events –

  • TBA - likely in March 2021, with legendary record producer Trevor Horn (Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Seal) & special effects supervisor Brian Johnson (Alien, The Empire Strikes Back, Thunderbirds, 2001: A Space Odyssey)
  • Due on March 31st, with writer and performer Dom Joly, best known for Trigger Happy TV & Aardman Animations’ founder David Sproxton. Aardman is the studio behind Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, Flushed Away and more.

Future guests and finances –

As well as those above, we are aiming to hold further events for as soon as possible, ideally also later this year. People interested in appearing include popular LBC presenter James O’Brien and leading musicals’ lyricist Sir Tim Rice (previously a guest in 2017).

The Space is a very small business with limited funds, especially during this time. Although we can expect more attendance bookings nearer the time of the events, we want to feel that we’ll be able to cover their costs. These include the guests’ travel, hotel accommodation, venue hire and website admin. In addition, there are monthly costs, which include internet and phone. These are direct debits from The Space bank account. And it may well be likely that some (more) payees may want refunds.
