I will complete a virtual 700 mile charity tab to commemorate the march to the Somme and back.
l will be involved in the challenge to raise money for SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity.
The first day of the Battle of the Somme, in northern France, was the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army and one of the most infamous days of World War One. On 1 July 1916, the British forces suffered 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 fatalities. They gained just three square miles of territory. One of the deadliest battles in history, the Somme came to embody all the horror of the First World War. The Somme became a byword for senseless slaughter as the Allies gained just six miles over 141 days of bloodshed.
To mark the 104th Anniversary of The Somme, starting on 1st July I’m covering the 700 mile distance in under 141 days, (1.5 million steps). The virtual distance from Stockport to Gommecourt and back. To raise money for a charitable cause that is very important to me so please donate and help me reach my target in aid of SSAFA. Anything you can contribute towards helping me achieve my target will be massively appreciated.
Thank you, Adrian
