The Smile Brigade are a non profit organisation offering free services and activities to the most vulnerable members of society, with our focus being on the homeless, the elderly and the mental health services.
Our aim is to help take people away from the more negative aspects of life by providing positive and meaningful activities.
We offer free hot meals and haircuts to the homeless as well as free fitness sessions, encouraging people to stay active and be proactive.
Our most popular service is our Karaoke and Cupcake afternoons which we offer to care homes.
Music, along with singing - has long been shown to have a positive affect on people with dementia.
When used appropriately, music can shift mood, manage stress - induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function and coordinate motor movements.
£160 will pay for 2 karaoke + cupcake afternoons at 2 care homes + 2 additional visits, where we will provide dementia friendly activities for all the residents.
So all in all your money will pay for 4 visits with a total reach of 80-100 people.
By offering free services and activities such as our Karaoke and Cupcake afternoon, we help bring people out of isolation, whilst gaining new skills and confidence.
Benefits of Activities..
Development of skills
Preserving Dignity and Self Esteem
Maintaining Skills and Independance
We want to help make a difference to peoples lives, wherever we can and however we can.
Our services help people who are lonely and isolated to feel like a valued member of the community whilst promoting social networks. Through activities that develop basic skills including communication, it is more likely that the people we help will find the confidence to access other beneficial services such as healthcare for example.
The Smile Brigade also work closely within the local homless community. We have been doing food handouts and providing free haircuts to the homeless since December 2012, giving out food and donated clothes to people who are homeless and living in hostels or sleeping rough.
