The Singing Midwife's fundraising UK Tour

Julie Dawid is The Singing Midwife. This October Julie takes to the road to raise money for the campaign to keep independent midwifery legal in the UK. The show contains songs and stories about vaginas, the godly origin of breastmilk, healthy herbs, dads that have gone crazy for lack of sleep and, of course, some mention of babies. To reduce the environmental impact of the tour, Julie will be making all journeys by public transport.

We did it!

On 14th Oct 2013 we successfully raised £800 of £750 target with 29 supporters in 28 days

Why is a British midwife taking her ukele on the road this Autumn?

Julie Dawid is an independent midwife, an age old profession which is under threat. In 2013, only about 100 of the UK's many thousand midwives choose to work directly for women and their families rather than for the health service. Being an independent midwife is a way of working which enables the pregnant woman to choose the person who will attend her at one of the most important moment of her life, and to build a relationship of trust with her midwife. The result? Deeply satisfying birth experiences, healthy mothers and babies, happy fathers, and relationships which last a lifetime,

Unfortunately, come this Autumn independent midwives may become illegal - due to a piece of EU legislation that means that all health professionals will need to have insurance. And the rather distressing fact that, despite our fantastic health outcomes, for over a decade no insurance company has been willing to insure us.

That's OK - independent midwives are a seriously proactive bunch of women, and have found an answer...but have had to raise £72,000 to make it work. So Julie is taking her Singing Midwife show on the road, to raise awareness and funds.
