Originally commissioned and produced by the RSC, The Seven Acts of Mercy juxtaposes the theme of compassion as depicted in the seminal oil painting of 16th Century Italian artist Caravaggio, with those of community, politics and poverty in modern day Bootle, Liverpool. Our aim is to bring this culturally relevant and important piece of theatre to the local community to open up discussions surrounding the themes of the show.
The show, produced by our production company Grasp The Nettle, will be the UK premiere outside of London, performed through community rehearsed readings and culminating in a week of shows at The LIPA Studio Theatre. Our objective is to reach audiences who would not usually engage within theatre, working with community groups in Bootle where the central themes of urban regeneration and poverty are still an important discussion point within the area. Outside of the rehearsed readings a proportion of tickets for the final performances will also be donated to those from low income backgrounds from the Bootle area.
We have received Arts Council England National Lottery Funding to help launch the project, your funding will help to bring the creative elements of the show to life including experimenting with new technology.
