The ReWrite Company
We are trying to build a community that is all about giving women the support and providing them a platform to express their strengths and creativity without having to pay for the privilege. We are doing this because artists deserve the opportunity to express themselves regardless of their social or financial situation. Too often in society today, that opportunity is limited to the few and fortunate.
As artists, we are often denied the opportunity of creative expression because of a lack of funds or connections and as females, we are often denied this because of our gender.
As a company and community, founded by female artists, we aim to be heard.
Our launch event will be the first project of many. At our events we will showcase and celebrate the unique work of different creatives in a wide range of disciplines.
Our first event will be an exhibition inspired by women in mythology who have been unfairly represented. We want to rewrite the social narrative that allowed women to be so viciously wronged and to celebrate honest female freedom.
When you are in an environment that is celebratory, safe and strong, you feel invincible. Therefore, we have created this company and event to pay homage to the resilience and courage of all females.
Art mirrors society, but for this event, we have chosen art as our influencer rather than our mirror. We want to showcase art that depicts a society that is brave and accepting. As women, we know the importance of feeling that you can take on the world every time you step out the door and we intend to let every woman know that she is not alone.
'And Then There Was Her' will be a celebration and we want to treat as such. With your help, we can create the perfect venue, ambiance and company. Our launch night will have live music and performance, artist Q&A's and of course, there will be a bar!
About the Creators:
The ReWrite Company was founded by Shannon Heather and Ellena Dobby.
Shannon recently graduated from Bath Spa University where she studied Contemporary Arts Practise and developed her skills as a well rounded artistic practitioner. Her current practise involves creating soundscapes in relation to colour. She produces paintings and develops abstract ambient sound art using music production techniques.
Having had successful exhibitions in the past, Shannon is raring to go with this new project. She is passionate, practised and wants to curate a safe space and a community for women to talk about their experiences and present their own work with confidence.
Ellena is a screenwriter and actress, who graduated from the University of Kent, where she studied Drama and Theatre. She spent time in Denmark, where she gained invaluable experience coordinating and managing events. Now, back in the UK, she wants to host events that bring together creative women and inspire them to explore their own art.
As a writer, Ellena is passionate about communication and as an actor she believes that openness and emotional freedom is integral to our society. Through the ReWrite Company she wants to encourage women to be open and accepting of themselves.
Shannon and Ellena came together as friends with a mutual passion for the justice of all women. That shared passion inspired the birth of The ReWrite Company.
'And Then There Was Her' will be the first of many events that shows their commitment and encapsulates what they believe in as both artists and women.
They are clever, creative and can't wait to show people what they can do together.
