The aim is to be able to offer a safe, informal meeting place for all members of the community to help re-connect and reduce isolation

by Sophie Wilding in Leyland, Lancashire, United Kingdom

CNOS was set up in March 2020 in the wake of the initial Covid Pandemic. Since then we have supported hundreds of families and individuals within the community with both practical and well being groups and services.

The CNOS team is made up of volunteers from different ages and backgrounds but importantly form the community we support.

We want to set up a Community Cafe and continue the current groups and services that we offer. The drop in Cafe will allow us to have specific events for certain groups such as Older Persons Afternoon Tea sessions to re-connect and support our elderly and isolated members of the community back into the fold and make new friendships and connections. We will use it for our Youth Group to give the Young People meals when they attend and help them to learn basic cooking skills and working together. It will also help us to offer seasonal and ad-hoc projects all from our hub as the centre. We will use it as a drop in base for our well being sessions that we want to run alongside fitness and outdoor sessions.

Having this will form and enable further in-person connections and allow people to meet, find out about our other sessions and services and have a place to come to promote their well being and community links.

We will also use surplus foods where possible that would otherwise go to landfill to help reduce waste, utilise excess produce and make meals we can then give back out to those in need of a bit of extra assistance.
