The Posh Club is a glamorous showbiz and social club run by Duckie for working class older folk in their 90s, 80s, 70s & 60s in Crawley in West Sussex. It has been running weekly for 3 years as a tongue-in-cheek 'posh' high tea and fancy cabaret. It’s mission is to combat loneliness in older folk and to build a community through a shared love of popular entertainment and a knees up.
The club is moving permanently to a new venue, which is a shabby room that we would like to turn into a grand performance palais. We want to install a stage, theatre lighting, sound system, velvet theatre curtains and 90 gold chairs, and undertake small structural changes to the room. This will be the permanent home of The Posh Club serving 90 older folk each week for many years to come with a spectacular performance programme and a community hub.
We aim to re-open in October 2016 and run every Tuesday, with weekly cabaret shows including tap dancers, opera singers, comedians, london's finest flappers, acrobats, hula hoopers, black elvis, chinese elvis and white elvis, music hall starlets, soubrettes, ukelele bands, acapella troupes, impersonators and the finest ballet.
If you back us, we can make a beautiful venue to give the Crawley older folks a brilliant piece of the action.
