Hello and welcome to our Crowdfunder! For those who don’t know us so well, we are The Paper Cinema.
For our latest show, The Paper Cinema’s Macbeth, hand-drawn puppets collide with live music, Foley and cinematic projection to vividly retell Shakespeare's tragedy. Immerse yourself on a journey through rugged Scottish landscapes and encounter storms, betrayal and murderous plot. Watch a captivating silent film created before your eyes.
The Paper Cinema’s Macbeth is our biggest show to date. In 2017 we presented the show at the British Council Showcase as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In March we will embark on an international tour of the show, starting with a three week run at Battersea Arts Centre in London. We're very excited to be taking this show to a number of incredible cities and venues around the world, and we need YOUR help with the last little bit of funding to make the show the best it can be.
With your help, we will be able to finish developing the show; invest in better Foley instruments, buy a screen so the work can be seen cinematically, and importantly spend time drawing the hundreds of detailed puppets.
Investing in the show now will be invaluable to the show and our company. Owning our own screen will help us share this much loved story with new audiences, both for this run at Battersea Arts Centre and in the future. Your support will mean we can create a truly special, cinematic experience for every single audience member, being able to transform spaces and immerse people in this epic story.
You could be a stranger (that we' haven't met yet), family, friend or fan and we would like to say thank you in advance for taking the time to read this, and a further thank you to those who feel they can contribute to this Crowdfunder.
Every penny is appreciated - so whatever you can spare, even if it is just the time to share the link, we will be eternally grateful.
With love and gratitude,
The Paper Cinema
Macbeth is a co-production with Battersea Arts Centre and we are set to perform the show on the 20th March until 4th April.
OUR CO-PRODUCERS, BATTERSEA ARTS CENTRE
Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) is an arts organisation based in South-West London. BAC's purpose is to inspire people to take creative risks to shape the future. BAC is funded as a development and presenting house, and as such creates only a small handful of productions & co-productions a year through additional fundraising and private donations. For Macbeth to be selected to have BAC’s support in this way shows huge confidence from BAC in the quality of our work and the scale of our potential audience.
THE PAPER CINEMA
“The level of detail in Rawling’s drawings is beautiful. What’s equally impressive is how cinematically they’re presented to us, in such simple yet ingeniously effective means” The Telegraph
Our previous work has included critically acclaimed, award-nominated Night Flyer & King Pest, staged at Battersea Arts Centre in 2008, and The Rock Charmer, an extraordinary work projected on to the cliffs above Winspit as part of Inside Out Dorset Festival. The Paper Cinema's Odyssey, our last full scale production, was a resounding success receiving wide critical acclaim in the UK and abroad. It has toured to 60 venues in 16 different countries, reaching audiences of over 80,000 people in countries including China, Kuwait, Brazil and Bosnia.
