My name is sophie and I am a 28 year old mother and wife seeking more from my existence than just going to work and paying the bills.
After suffering post natal depression and other mental health illnesses a relocation to rural Herefordshire has saved me and opened up so many new opportunities. I spent year searching for something to add to my life that may bring me happiness . However I have found the countryside has helped me understand the importance of just doing nothing. The importance of stopping once in a while in our busy lives to take care of yourself and in turn that enables you to take care of those around you
I have learnt the happiness that small thing in country life can bring, such as living sustainable, growing our own vegtables, keeping animals and letting our son use the countryside as his playground.
They say money cannot bring happiness but it does help and in order to be able to offer people who are also struggling like I once was a retreat away from the in the crazy constraints of daily life I am asking for your help.
We would love to be able to provide a rural sanctuary in the Herefordshire countryside where. individuals or families could come and just take stock of the world around them .
Engage in the care of the animals on the small holding, collecting produce such as eggs, milks and vegetables and living off the land like those years before us did.
After years of different anti depressants and therapy I found that the answer was all around me in the form of nature and the country side. I found happiness in the birth of baby lambs, watch9ing them stand, play and run of the first time.
Sitting with a drink in the cool evening around a fire talking to my family and not having the interference on social media or technology. Making memories for our selves in the real world instead of watching others on a phone.
Previously we had filled our house with toys for our son, none of which he played with for more than two seconds. We found he was most happy finding his own fun out on the farm . A huge free playground.
Being able to host other at our sanctuary would be fantastic and if we could help improve the mental health of just one person then that would be amazing .
There are to two finance aspects of our business the first being to buy the land to extend our residence so we can keep more animals, grow more vegetables and also have the space for those who visit us to walk , be free and alone with nature.
The second aspect is an old barn next door that has planning permission to be converted . We would love to be able to raise the money to buy and convert this into a retreat where individuals and families could come and stay . Having accommodation onsite would extend the experience that we could offer to people and the amount of time that they could stay with us.
If you were to donate or invest within our project we in return would offer you the opportune to come on a retreat with us and see for your self the benefits that the countryside has to offer.
I challenge anyone who wakes up at 'The Nest' following a stay with us not to have a huge sense of peace and joy in their sole. Even if just for a moment after listening to the birds sings, lambs bleat and to fill their lungs with the fresh air of the country side.
Come and join us and think about changing your or your family's way of life for the better.
