The Martin Gallier Project is fiercely dedicated to preventing suicides in the North West.

The organisation was established by Jessica Gallier as a direct response to the impact of the death by suicide of her father Martin in 2017. Jess set out on a mission to "Prevent suicides, break down stigmas and support families in the North West".

The one-of-a-kind project has been put together to tackle the areas we found to be lacking during Jess’ father’s journey with mental illness, the missed opportunities to save his life & the situations that we believed to be damaging to the family following his suicide. In February 2019 we opened Wirral’s first and only Suicide Prevention Centre, based at 57 New Chester Road, New Ferry. The centre is a non-clinical setting which now offers a range of activities that promote wellbeing with an overall focus on suicide prevention.

The Martin Gallier Project is the only suicide intervention, prevention and postvention service in the North West of England. Our Suicide Intervention Workers provide crisis support through immediate suicide interventions on the high street with no barriers to access or waiting lists.

We believe that our inclusive, non-judgemental approach, allied with measures to target and monitor at risk groups, will help us promote an inclusive service and contribute to a more inclusive community. We do not have waiting lists or complex referral processes, because we recognise that due to the stigma and shame associated with suicide, people do not generally speak about it and therefore when someone comes to us it is a “window of opportunity” which needs to be opened immediately.

It costs our organisation £80 to save one life. All the money raised will be used to continue this life saving work.
