The Vision

A new, inspiring creative space for our community to enjoy.

We want to provide a new, inspiring creative space for our community to enjoy. The current room, a rundown, unresourced studio will be transformed into a fantastic environment named ‘The Loft’ where people can discover and express their creativity whilst spending time with friends, old and new. We want the space to be home to many different community groups and be filled with people from across our neighbourhood, with all ages and backgrounds coming together to enjoy the arts.

The Need

At the moment we have Studio 3, a room with huge potential but in need of some significant investment. We have a vision to transform it into a perfect environment for people to create, to discuss and debate, to share ideas and to learn new skills. This room is currently home to several of our regular community groups such as creative writers (Roath Writers and Ekphrastic: Paint to Page), art classes (led by Rachel Rasmussen), our ceramics courses (led by Karen Dawn Curtis) and our monthly Book Club. The Loft Conversion will let us expand our programme to include more events such as photography classes and children’s arts groups.

The Plan

We plan to totally transform this room into a new creative space and re-name it 'The Loft'. This transformation would include:

· A full re-decoration, with new paintwork and an innovative interior design including brick-effect tiling and rustic cladding.

· New, modern and more comfortable furniture including new chairs and tables.

· Modernized technology including a projector, retractable screen and PA system.

· Improved storage solutions including new cupboards and shelving.

The cost of this project is £5000*. The Gate, as a not-for-profit charitable organisation, is able to meet half of the costs. The remaining £2500 will, however, need to be found from other sources so that we can convert the space to reach its full potential.
