We are a group of volunteers who have taken over the management of our Community Centre with the intentions of moving to a full asset transfer In 24 months. Our local authority has invested significant capital into the refurbishment of the Centre and has installed a new heating system , including a new boiler, radiators and pipework throughout . A number of windows have been replaced while others have been repaired. New lighting has also been installed and a number of smaller issues have been fixed along the way that needed remedied so as to reduce the liabilities for our group taking over the centre in May , 2019. There are 7 functional rooms and a Main Hall and it has been recognised that there was a need to support those living with a disability , including Alzheimer’s, Dementia , etc., and to offer those directly affected and those living with the those affected the opportunity to come to the centre , independently or with a carer and use the facilities within the Living Room concept - a home from home feel , that would be fitted with furnishings and equipment recognised by those who support those with disabilities. There is significant outlays involved in producing this type of facility and we want to get it right - first time! We are based in Whithorn, South West Scotland and our aim is to produce a facility for other residents from the neighbouring villages and towns within the area known as the south machars , which includes a further 10 communities. Ideally we would like to begin this project in the next 4 weeks and have it completed within 6 months, but the project will not impact on the every day running and organisation of the centre .
