Africa on the Ball is a Scottish charity using football for development in Zambia and Gambia. We’re fundraising to support the development of the K-Town Queens, our girl’s football and empowerment programme in Kalingalinga, Zambia.
Building on the success we’ve enjoyed with our men’s programme in Kalingalinga, we’ve established a girls and womens programme to ensure everyone has equal access to sport.
This helps to remove as many barriers as possible to girls’ participation in sport, tackling stereotypes about girls’ and women’s involvement in sport within Africa, while promoting positive messages about equality and challenging stigma. By talking with our team members, we’ve been able to establish how we can best support the girl’s with their aspirations at an important time of their lives.
Working to advance education, healthcare and enterprise through our programme, the girls benefit from our educational scholarship fund to assist with school fees, receive HIV/AIDs check-ups when participating in tournaments and, when they finish school, can think about establishing their own enterprises with support from our microfinance programme.
Money raised would also go towards the purchase of a container and its shipment to Zambia. The container will be filled with donations of kit, equipment and clothes - shipped to Zambia - the contents distributed and then used as an office and changing room for the team and charity in Kalingalinga.
Established in 2010, Africa on the Ball has successfully established a community development programme in the Zambian community of Kalingalinga. To date, the charity have helped develop an Under 12s, Under 17s and full adult team alongside an educational scholarship fund for players, food programme, litter-picking project and community outreach programme which involves Africa on the Ball players delivering football sessions at orphanages and schools.
