Street Souls have been providing a little cheer to many of London's homeless for the past 12 years. Operating year round (2 or 3 times per month), we try to cater to up to 200 homeless and needy folk in central London. We provide a nutritious hot meal, hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, and when we are able; toiletries, clothing (new and quality used), sleeping bags, friendship and advice. We have a indoor team and a street team. All are volunteers and 100% of any donation we receive is used to directly support the homeless.
As happens every year, at Christmas time everyone wants to help, no doubt fueled by considerable media coverage. Unfortunately, come mid January this willingness to help fades and the medias attention is directed elsewhere. January through March or April are particularly trying times for the homeless, worse still for rough sleepers. A disproportionate number of street deaths occur during this time a considerable number due to hypothermia and associated illnesses.
We do not pretend to fix the problem but we do offer help, and are a major pick me up for many.
We receive no statutory funding and rely on our awesome band of volunteers to raise funding to support us through the year.
Street Souls is a working name of Coombe Trust Fund a registered charity No:253241. Funds raised for Street Souls are considered restricted and are used only in direct support of Street Souls activities.
