Our names are Lewis Jeffery and Oliver Kelly. We are the two co-writers and directors of 'The Hackney Mile' and we are working alongside the University of Surrey Theatre Society. The organisation was founded in 2009 and it aims to provide as many students, both with and without previous performance experience, with the opportunity to create theatrical pieces. The production is entirely student led, from the writing process to the final performance.
WHAT IS THE HACKNEY MILE ABOUT?
The show opens with five friends navigating their way through a pub crawl (The Hackney Mile) for their friend Douglas Thompson's birthday.
This is truly a night to remember for the friends but for the wrong reasons, as Doug never makes it home.
The Hackney Mile is a depiction of friendship, hope and grief that is packed full of laughs and heartbreak as the characters struggle to come to terms with the loss of their best friend.
WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE?
Taking the production to The Vaults Theatre in London to take part in the Play, Pie, Pint event will give students an excellent firsthand experience of what it is like to take a show on tour and all of the logistical challenges that come with this.
There will be three performances at The Vaults which will be a thirty to forty minute scratch version of the show. Afterwards, a question and answer session will provide an important research and development opportunity that will be used to prepare the show for a full-length performance at the University of Surrey.
The Performances at The Vaults will be the 5th, 6th and 7th of March 2019.
There will be two full-length performances of the show in the Rex Doyle Studio at The Ivy Theatre at Surrey University on the 1st of June.
Your donation will be used to fund the travel costs of getting the cast and crew to and from London for two rehearsals in the space and the three performances.
We cannot afford to run this production without your donations.
