In the beginning
Having been very conscious about my plastic for many years I decided in 2019 to pursue my dream and bring my experience of researching zero waste and more environmentally friendly products to everyone. I started with a gazebo on market stalls and craft fairs and brought GreenHerts to life. I was lucky to move into a shop, but Covid-19 shut me down after just 5 weeks. Not eligible for any government help, I continued the business from the back of my car, filling customers bottles at their doorstep. This made me believe that this would be a much more positive move forward. No forgetting your empty containers. No more carrying heavy bottles about. And accessible to all in the local area.
By having a shop on wheels means that it will be accessible to many more people. The shop will also visit local markets and pop ups for those who prefer to shop in a regular place. A van will mean that more stock can be held in one place, creating less journeys and reducing my carbon footprint. it will also mean that I can also provide the dried food products so many people have been looking for. Herbs, spices etc for you to buy the amount you want without the constant packaging that really is not always necessary. The more people that see the van , then the hope is that more interest will be gained. Eventually this could mean the addition of a full shop in Bishop's Stortford. Something I truly believe would benefit our community.
The van will cover the same areas that have currently been covered by GreenHerts at the moment. This is Bishop's Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, and surrounding villages. I do also extend into Harlow. I try to be mindful of other similar businesses as I believe we work better by supporting each other rather than competing against each other.
Crowdfunding allows existing and potential customers reach out and have the opportunity to decide what they would like to see, so that the business can provide exactly what the community would like. Any money raised from this campaign will be used for
- purchase of the van
- advertising on the van
- fixtures and fittings
- gravity dispensers and appropriate containers
- carefully selected food items
- items you would like to see
I have not been eligible for any of the funding over lockdown but I have put any profits from sales into making sure the business has a supply of incredible non food items and refills. I only use companies that are genuinely environmentally friendly and where possible offer a fully circular system. I do not tolerate greenwashing of any kind and my business is completely transparent. I want to be able to keep prices competitive and offer all my customers value for money, together with a better option.
What's in it for you?
- The opportunity to be able to buy the things you want
- There will be a selection of rewards available
- Eco-minded businesses can have access to advertising on the van
- Sponsor a dispenser
- To spread the word of the refill revolution
- That warm feeling that you helped a small business that otherwise might not survive
