We are passionate about making our world better for our children. For us, that means helping our community, locally, nationally and internationally through:
- Providing luxury holidays for all couples, regardless of mobility levels and needs
- Preserving and enhancing our glorious natural environment for the enjoyment of “man, and beast” equally
- Integrating with our local community socially and commercially to spread economic prosperity
- Sharing the magic of Scotland with all and sundry through informative social media contributions
- Cooperating with our sector colleagues to continue to develop the industry and normalise accessibility and environmental responsibility.
Disabled people still have difficulty finding businesses to cater for their access requirements – there are 11.6 million disabled people in the UK but only 2 million take a holiday. Euan’s Guide Access Survey of disabled people and their friends and family identified that 73% had a trip ruined by inaccurate accessibility information. One of the main benefits of adopting a sustainable approach to the Fynn Estate, aside from protecting the magnificent landscape & wildlife, is a reduction in ongoing fuel and power costs meaning we can invest more back into ensuring our guests have access to the services and facilities they need.
Consequently, we have need of a range of features and technology, including, but not limited to:
Private, accessible bathroom pods including rain showers with built in seating for wheelchair users and others with mobility issues, water harvesting system, solar & wood fired heated insulated water butts and composting toilets
Level decking platform and access path/s including scenic walking trails so that guests with mobility issues aren't restricted to only their platform and have access to the wider environment
Outdoor kitchen gazebos with varying height benches to cater for a range of access needs
Scandinavian woodfire heated hot tubs partially sunk into decking platforms that ensure amenities are on a single level and accessible
Water treatment plant/s
Commercial AAA Washer.
This campaign means so much to us, it is deeply personal to our family. Not just my own experience, which I've outlined below, but also due to our extended families' experiences with insidious progressive diseases like MS and Parkinsons, to those recovering from cancer and other conditions. Holidays may seem like a "First World problem", but the reality is, recovery requires peace and relaxation. Relationships need dedication and focus to grow and survive. Respite, at the right time, in the right format, I have absolutely no doubt, saves relationships and lives.
One day, almost 2 years ago I woke up unable to walk. It turns out I had a lesion on my spinal cord (C3/4) as a result of Transverse Myelitis. It’s a condition that causes the immune system to attack the spine. I was very lucky as I was treated very quickly with IV steroids within 24 hours, however, almost 2 years later, I’m only just walking (not always steadily) without assistance.
I had been fit and healthy 40 something one day, and disabled the next. It was quite a curve ball. My husband, Nathan, and I both had to work really hard to maintain any normalcy in life. I had to go back to work while still relying on a Zimmer frame (Godfrey the racing zimmer as he came to be known).
Luckily my employers are dedicated to accessibility wherever practically possible, yet still I really struggled with mobility. Footpaths, stairs, broken lifts and poor toilet facilities were constant roadblocks to my recovery.
It was desperately hard on Nathan as well. I’d gone from loving wife, to dependent patient overnight.
Suitable respite was simply unavailable to us. Holidays had become almost impossible because destinations simply weren’t set up with mobility impairment in mind. And this is when we needed holidays the most.
We intend to lead the way in sustainable, inclusive self-catering luxury holidays. We’ll help our local community to become the premier destination in this market, using local suppliers and services wherever possible. I have 20+ years experience as a Commercial and Project Manager across many sectors. I know that this is achievable. Let's normalise accessibility and environmental responsibility together!
Because goodness knows, it really is about time.
