The Dóchas Community Homelessness Project is a non-profit project and has been running in Haringey for three months. It has proved to be a vital service to rough sleepers across the borough. Each week we head out and provide rough sleepers with food, hot and cold drinks, sleeping bags, clothes, toiletries, tents, dog food and other vital provisions. We also offer advice on other homeless network services across London, housing, travel, basic first aid and we've recently started offering our service users £2 per person each week to use the shower facilities at a local leisure centre.
Our wish is to create communities and give hope to our service users. A cup of tea and a ten minute chat each week means an awful lot more than people realise. We also have further hopes for our project, such as a community launderette that we hope to establish later on this year, a streets film production and we often take our gear to other areas as and when we can.
We're currently faced with a problem though. Our project is by no means the biggest and until now, we have never asked for any monetry donations. Throughout the winter, our stock room was full while we worked with other projects. Christmas is notoriously the season of good will and donations came in thick and fast. Since the weather has picked up, resources are dwindling and our small team of two are now self funding the project, something that we unfortunately cannot afford to sustain. This is where you come in!
We're appealing for any donations, big or small to keep this vital service going. If we can raise even half of our target, this will keep us running for months to come, so we'd really appreciate whatever help you might be able to offer.
Similarly, if you or your business would like to donate any food or items that you think might be useful to us, please contact us at email@example.com or via our Facebook page!
Many, many thanks for your ongoing support.
