The Counselling Space is a project that offers free, timely and accessible mental health support to anyone wishing to access it.
We are raising funds to expand our free Counselling service by an additional day, this will offer mental health support many can't access
So far we have delivered over 400 free sessions to members of the community including children, adults, couples & families.
We started as a small project trial and have grown due to demand and the life changes users have experienced.
We now need to expand our project to offer free quality mental health support for those not able to get support elsewhere.
For the last eighteen months, we have been providing free therapy to people in the local community of Hackney. Currently, we are only able to operate for one day a week and now due to the success of our service, we have been confirmed free space to run sessions Monday to Friday.
This is where we need your help
We need your help to expand our work and cover the costs of a therapist for an additional day of the week, and if sufficient funds raised, then expand to as many days as your generous contributions make it possible!
What is our vision?
- To offer timely, free and accessible mental health support to anyone wishing to access it.
- To provide an alternative to current long waiting lists in the NHS and high fees of private mental health care.
- To avoid where possible, exploiting dedication of Counsellors who due to lack of government funds, are forced to work for free.
- We need to fundraise £9,250 for one year’s service.
- Hourly rate for the counsellor £20p/hr: £536
- Monthly supervision: £70
- Monthly insurance: £10
Total per month: £616
Total per year: £7,392
More about the project
We are working in collaboration with the MillCo Project who have allowed us to start serving the community at the Rose Lipman Building in Haggerston, Hackney.
The therapy provided at The Counselling Space follows the Person Centred approach, which means that it puts the client and their feelings at the center of therapy. Person Centred therapy does not diagnose or give homework to bring to the next session, except where found useful and agreed by both the therapist and user.
Our Lead Counsellor and founder, Claudia Turbet-Delof, is a qualified Person Centred Counsellor, a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists UK (BACP), a trained Group Therapist and former Youth Worker that has worked with children and young people at risk of exclusion in and outside schools in the boroughs of Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets.
Thanks a million for your amazing support!
