The Copper Pot Smallholding

The Copper Pot Smallholding

To raise funds to pay for vital services such as a water bore for the animals and also various machinery needed to work on the land.

We did it!

On 21st Nov 2016 we successfully raised £332 with 12 supporters in 56 days

My Wife and I are in the process of setting up a Smallholding and Campsite in a beautiful location in the Cornish countryside in the South West corner of the UK. We have the land, a 2.5 acre plot and we have started the planning process.

Once we have planning we will need to raise more funds for materials but Immediately we are in need of funds in the region of £50,000 so that we can finance some basic but very important things...We need a water bore so we can provide water for our animals and our crops, We also need funds for fencing to keep predators away from our poultry and pests away from our crops. We need machinery such as a petrol lawnmower, a petrol chainsaw and a few other tools so we can keep the site tidy and to create materials for the paths.

With the smallholding our aim is to grow organic vegetables/fruit and to breed and rear organic free range  animals for meat/milk/eggs. This will come from chicken/ducks/geese/ turkeys/pygmy goats and pigs, we will also sell organic free range eggs. All of the veggie/fruit produce will be grown organically and all of our animals will be free range, fed organically and be treated humanely, with respect throughout their lives. All of our produce will be available seasonally on site depending on the time of year. We  hope to provide jobs to the local area and intend to donate as much food as we can to the local foodbanks.

On the Campsite we are planning on having six 6m canvas bell tents and three shepherd huts. All tents and shepherd huts will have large comfortable handmade beds, extra beds can be added depending on how many people are using the accommodation. Each will have a private hot water  bath which you can lie in at night time with a bottle of wine and enjoy the stars. Some will have woodburning stoves which will keep you nice and snug during any chilly nights.  There will be heated showers on site as well as modern compost toilets for all to use.  Also numerous charcoal bbqs and firepits to use for cooking and also a fully functioning cooking station with gas hobs for people who'd like the comforts of home. Two of the tents will have disabled access and there will be disabled access showers and toilets,  Sadly due to the lay of the land we can't provide more.

There will be a huge amount to see and do, We are only a 50 minute drive from the Eden project, 30 minutes from the nearest beaches, 30 minutes from dartmoor, 30 minutes from Plymouth, we are surrounded by bicycle trails, canoe & kayak hire is within a 5 minute drive and there are walks galore throughout the gorgeous countryside. If you'd prefer to relax on site you are more than welcome to lay in one of the many hammocks we will be erecting and read a book, or feel free to get to know some of the campsite animals.

As everything that you need sleeping wise is available on site we are also going to offer a service where we can pick you and your bags up from a local train station, we will have bicycles for hire at a reasonable price, which you can use to see a lot of the local area. There will be space for cars so you can drive around the local area,  However caravans and large campervans are not permitted.

We've been incredibly busy so far - planting veg, clearing dead wood, building large enclosures for the poultry - but we've reached a point where we need to raise funds to move further forward,  we currently don't have planning permission but we are, with the help of a rural planner, currently applying for it, we also don't have running water yet so we need to have a water bore put in before we bring in any more animals and we need to purchase suitable fencing materials so that we can safely keep the animals we wish to breed.

We also need some basic machinery to help the site mentioned earlier we need a chainsaw or two, a petrol lawnmowers and we also need a diesel generator which we can use to power  lights/electric tools/and to power fridges/freezers for the guests to use and many other bits and bobs which we need to get the project moving along a wee bit faster. We hope to open this year, but I think it will be spring 2017 when we open.

So that is our story and this is our project, thank you very much for reading it all and we'd be overjoyed if you could come and enjoy it with us once we're up and running.
