Natalie Lek, the #foodfairyofthenorth the lady who last year made 1000 free Christmas dinners for Greater Manchester has now started The Launch Project which has this year delivered a Valentines Ball for the elderly, a community Easter Party for children living in poverty, the Sunday social which allows people who are socially isolated to come together in a safe space every month to make friends and take part in community activities which improves their mental health.
The aim….to raise enough money to cover the 1000 free Christmas dinners for Greater Manchester and also to raise enough funds to cover the cost of everyone not only receiving a Christmas dinner on Christmas day but also a Christmas present so everyone not only has something to eat but also something to open to hopefully make them smile. Christmas can be a very lonely time for those with no family or little social support.
This is not just for families and individuals but also for the homeless of Manchester, did you know half of our Christmas dinners last year went to the homeless?
We also urgently require Hotbags and Hotboxes which allow us to keep the food hot while in transit, last year we ran short of these so deliveries were slower.
We deliver to Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Manchester, Hulme, Marple, Offerton, Eccles, Didsbury, Salford, Brinnington, Swinton, Harpurhey, Prestwich, Moston, Bredbury, Romiley and surrounding areas.
Last year we only received a small donation from Iceland Foodstore at Trafford park, so far this year none have come forward to help with any donations of food.
Remember you don’t have to celebrate Christmas to receive a free meal on Christmas day this is open to everyone.
Any food that is left over will go to making emergency food parcels and where possible jars of baby food to ensure we have absolutely no food waste. Any funds left over will go to hosting the first Sunday social of 2019 and the Valentines Ball for the elderly.
Why should you donate to us?
Becoming homeless or loosing family can happen to anyone and not only does it create isolation it also creates financial hardship, its harder to get back on your feet when you have no one to help you or feel that you are on your own.
We are completely transparent anyone can ask for proof of where the funds have been used, what has been purchased. We don’t believe in hiding information we believe its your community and we are here to support you and your community. We welcome you to come down on the day and get involved to come and see what we are doing and watch us, feel free to ask questions or peel some vegetables.
