The Clothes Horse gives free children's clothes to families in the community and throughout Cornwall.
We have recently moved location to a more central area in Newquay town centre. The Clothes Horse building is where people can come donate clothes and take clothes for their children. It is also a place where people can come and chat as well as volunteer with us.
Although we have spent a great deal of time getting ready we still have lots to do so that the building will be a great place for families to come.
Money raised will go towards the building project. We would like to create a fenced off play area so that small children can play safely whilst parents and carers can browse through clothes. We would also like to have a heater inside. We also want to create an inviting outside space with a sheltered bike area, lockable donation drop off and lots of bee-friendly plants. We would also like to put in some new doors at the front of the building.
We want to create a welcoming place whilst providing a much needed service in our community. We want to continue serving our community in a way where those who visit us feel welcomed, respected and enjoy themselves.
So far we have given to clothing to over 520 children since we began in 2016. Many families return to us swapping outgrown clothes for new sizes.
The Clothes Horse is also passionate about keeping clothes out of landfill and reusing. With the current situation with climate change we feel we must do all we can to promote a circular economy. We want to begin doing workshops such as making simple bags and creating fabric cloths at The Clothes Horse to encourage people to recycle.
