I am 32 and married with a 6 year old boy who is a constant source of amusement and amazement. He also happens to be part of the inspiration for this project.
Around 5 years ago within the space of about 18 months I went through the highs of becoming a dad for the first time to the lows of losing my own dad to cancer.
Now after 8 or so years of working in the print, publishing industry I feel it is time to live out a dream of my own. The chance to produce a beautifully illustrated children's book, with the relationship between a father and a son at the heart of it.
I want to create a book that parents love to read to their children, grandparents love to read to their grandchildren and also kids just enjoying reading to themselves.
I'll be writing the book myself (with a little help with the punctuation and grammar), I've already found an incredible Illustrator and with my print background these books will be finished beautifully.
Initially I'll just be looking to produce a few hundred. I am going to be donating a number of the books to local schools and the rest will be sold with all profits being donated to the Cobalt Health along with any extra money that is made if I receive over my pledge target.
Why I need your help? The initial Illustrating and printing costs are fairly high so with all your help I hope to get this exciting project off the ground.
What will happen to any profits? Any profits that are made from the pledges towards this project will go straight to a fantastic local charity called the Cobalt Health. https://www.cobalthealth.co.uk/
Here is a little background behind this fantastic charity.
The Cobalt Health believe everyone should have access to the best medical imaging for their diagnosis. They are a charity that invests in equipment, research and education to help this happen.
The Charity, was founded over 50 years ago by Dr Fred Hanna, who launched a public appeal to build a Cobalt Unit in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
The Cobalt supports patients with cancer, dementia and other conditions. Their sophisticated and innovative scanning equipment uses the latest technology.
They contribute and provide funding for research, which leads to a greater understanding of disease, predominantly cancer and dementia.
What is the book about?
The book which I have names The Big Green Chair is based around two central characters, Charlie and Charlie's father. Charlie is a 5 year old boy who is going through a slightly anxious time in his life and his family are moving house. The story really comes into life when Charlie's dad tries to ease Charlie's mind about moving by creating imaginative advertures. Thinking fast Dad decides to make a much loved big green chair that has taken pride of place in the living room the centre piece for all the advertures. Who knew a big green chair could become a Rocket or a Pirate Ship amongst many other exciting things and far off magical lands. The only question left is, will the big green chair survive the move?
