- My name is Mikki Mills and I am the Director of 'The Arts Centre' in Great Dunmow, Essex. The centre is a Community Hub and has been running since 2007 and is a non profit making organisation.
We wish to expand the centre by refurbishing an area of it currently unused, to enable more people to access the facility's and activities on offer once Covid-19 rules are eased and to ensure plenty of space regarding social distancing.
The centre not only offers community hire i.e Dance studios, an in-house 120 Seater Theatre, holiday activities such as Arts & Crafts, a Part Time Saturday School, an Agency for children for TV, Film and Theatre work, office hire for Admin also, but I also run a private College from the centre for 16 year olds+ which provides them with a Triple Threat Musical Theatre Diploma over a duration of 3 years in which they can gain UCAS points too. We also offer a 1 year Top up if anyone wishes to refresh their previous training. The aim for 2021, is to also offer a Degree in Performing Arts and I have teamed up with a University in Chichester to make this amazing opportunity available to the local community, regional and national/interinternational students too!
People who attend the Centre are able to take part in our annual participation in the local carnival, attend a 'Showteam' group which runs once a week in the evening and the group participate in yearly competitions such as 'The Jack Petchey' awards and 'Glee Club'. This has given the group the opportunities to perform at 'The London Palladium' and 'Cadogan Hall' which they thoroughly enjoyed!
We also have fundraising nights such as 'Comedy, Quiz and Psychic Evenings' where like minded people come together for a fun packed evening.
The funding to refurbish an area of 'The Arts Centre', will enable a lot more people to access a wide range of activities and have access to Radio Host training too if they wish to further their knowledge in Broadcasting etc. It will also create more space and activities to ensure that no-one has to feel isolated from the community during and after, these unprecedented times.
My aim is to complete the project by September 2021
