Thatched Studio at CAT

We need your help to finish the Thatched Pavilion or 'Hairy Hut' at the Centre for Alternative Technology.

We did it!

On 28th Oct 2016 we successfully raised £505 of £500 target with 17 supporters in 56 days

Situated on the new Quarry Walk at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), the Thatched Pavilion/Studio or 'Hairy Hut' will be a new attraction for visitors.

The building will demonstrate the potential for prefabricated thatch panels as a modern use for an ancient material. We hope that the building will also be a quiet space for contemplation, for visitors, students and staff at CAT with majestic views over Llwyngwern Quarry.

The pavilion has been designed and built by Part 2 architecture students as well as a host of volunteers. So far we've been thatching and building for over 700hours with over 35 volunteers involved.

The budget for the build has unfortunately run out just as the end was in sight! We've thatched 8 wall panels, 2 roof panels and have constructed the primary frame on site. We need £500 to keep us thatching the final two roof panels and purchase the materials for the internal finishes for the build.

If you can help us in any way, please do. We will be hosting an opening event in Spring 2017 which volunteers and donors will be invited to.
