We are Telescope, the insights leadership programme linking the policy and social sectors.
We have worked across the policy and social sectors, including in Parliament, schools, community centres, and charities. We have learnt from the people working directly with beneficiaries to deliver public services.
We have seen the disconnect between the social sector and policy-makers, with both sides doing the best they can to tackle complex social challenges within a siloed system. This has led to policies with negative, unintended consequences for some of the most vulnerable in society. We want to change that - and we think the missing link is collaboration.
Telescope is a leadership programme with a difference. The project will bring together cohorts of policymakers and social sector workers, to collaborate on a challenging learning experience involving shadowing and learning new design tools for problem-solving. Participants will build networks, gain on-the-ground insight, and learn innovative tools for problem-solving.
Your investment will support 4 social sector organisations to work with us over the summer as we develop the programme. We are determined to ensure we can pay our social sector partners for their expertise and time. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Year Here and partners, who provide support and some funding - your money can help us get even further.
“Having spent almost two decades operating at the sharp end of challenging inner-city estates, I’m convinced there would be transformative mutual value in creating co-learning spaces for our frontline staff alongside those creating and driving social policy. And this is exactly what Telescope does. It’s the solution we’ve been waiting for and at last there’s the opportunity to build meaningful relationships that will deliver both better policy and more effective delivery.”
-- Rob Trimble BEM, Chief Executive, Bromley by Bow Centre
“This would be really useful so that we can try to make sure that decisions that are made “higher up the food chain” are based on what we’re seeing on the ground, and that the voices of the people we’re dealing with are heard."
-- Tommy Cloherty, Housing Justice
“I came into this job to do good - but there are no opportunities to collaborate. This kind of insight would be really valuable.”
-- Policymaker, DHSC
What can you help us achieve?
We need your help in this funding round to kickstart our activities, so that we can develop and pilot the programme over the next few months.
Once we are established, Telescope will operate as a social enterprise. Our business model works by charging policy-makers for this leadership training opportunity, and using this income to remunerate our social sector partners and cover running costs.
Over the next six months, your donations will help fund:
- Support of charity and public sector partners to deliver 4 pilot programmes
- Programme co-design with frontline delivery staff, including focus groups and A-B testing
- Initial design & development of online offering (website, network platform and social media presence)
