New stretch target

Every penny raised will be used to make this project amazing and a high quality experience for all of those attending, potentially enabling us to add more dates to the Tea Dance with a Twist! calendar.

Tea Dances with a Twist! will be a monthly intergenerational social event (18th June, 16th July and 13th August) that will take place at Plymouth Guildhall, targeting the ageing population in Plymouth.

As well as offering a social activity for the community that is Dementia and Parkinson’s Friendly there will be a Vintage Tea Room and an Independent Living Zone where local service providers can have a stand enabling them to provide face to face advice and information. We are expecting a monthly footfall of approximately 500 people.

Tea Dance with a Twist! 2016 will be a monthly event to bring people in Plymouth together. Co-hosted by Miss Ivy Events with live music performed by the Metropolis Swing Quartet and a team of highly trained dance experts, this really is going to be a community event not to be missed!

The upper Guildhall will be filled with Dancing, Live Music, Tea and Cake and even a few stalls hosted by Miss Ivy Events, one of the leading organisers of vintage and artisan shoes in the South West. The Mezzanine will become an Independent Living Zone with displays and stands promoting products, services and support available from voluntary and corporate sector organisations.

The aims of the project are:

  • To improve the health and wellbeing of the participants through participation of a social and physical activity.
  • To help combat loneliness in the ageing population of Plymouth
  • To help improve public health specifically targeting over 50’s in Plymouth
  • To help signpost over 50’s to local services
  • To encourage community cohesion bringing different people together for these events
  • To work in partnership with other Plymouth dementia friendly organisations to help Plymouth become a dementia friendly City.

All of our dance leaders have been put through a comprehensive training package to ensure that they are able to work with some of Plymouth's most vulnerable people. Although these events will be open to the general public, we will be activly promoting and making sure it is accessible to people living with disabilities, Parkinsons, Dementia or any other medical condition that they may feel prevent them from fully accessing other dance classes and opportunities.

Through Tea Dances With a Twist! we want to bring the community together, old and young, professional dancers and complete beginners everyone is welcome and no partner or experience is necessary!

So why do we need your support?

Plymouth Dance is a not for profit Community Interest Company (CIC). To put on three events like this and create a high quality experience comes at a cost and although we have been lucky enough to secure some support from Miss Ivy Events, Plymouth City Bus, The Duke of Cornwall, Plymouth Culture and Arts Council South West, we still need some additional funding to make sure the events are a success.

Each person who comes in will be asked to make a donation of between £1-£5 depending on what thay can afford. This is to make sure that it is acessible to those on a low income.

The project will run over three concecutive months at Plymouth Guildhall and this is one way that you can get involved, so please pledge what you can and snap up one of our fantastic rewards!
