Unfortunately this project was not successful.

To provide a calendar of activities for our service users that promote good health, socialisation, new interests and community engagement

If the true measure of any society really is how it treats its most vulnerable members, people with learning difficulties definitely fall into this category. Learning difficulties are often misunderstood and people who experience them are often marginalised and face inequality on a daily basis

Taunton Mencap are affiliated to National Mencap but are a charity in our own right who provide activities, trips and workshops that enable local people with learning difficulties to engage more fully in life, both socially and in terms of learning new skills and developing new interests

Taunton Mencap's 2020 vision is a calendar for the year made up of not just our usual activities and outings but developing on some projects begun in 2019 that are enabling our members to join together in making a difference to the community. This previously included Music and Movement sessions through which we raised money for the refurbishment of the local hospital's maternity unit, the facilitation of two local groups to maintain and plant in the sensory garden of Taunton's Vivary Park and the creation of a sculpture by a local artist to commemorate the Six Acres Centre; a local centre that was forced to close due to lack of funding after 40 years of being a vital hub for the local LD community

With the money we raise through this endeavour we will expand upon all of this and ensure that those who were inspired by being involved in these projects will be able to continue to be inspired and to create a lasting impression in the community through their efforts, leading to more confidence, fuller social lives and new skills, which could lead to employment opportunities as well as further projects both of their own initiative and with our support

Our crowd has raised over £70 million for bright ideas and good causes.
