I am a tapestry artist making heavily textured woven sculptures as memorials and monuments which are placed outside to weather. In order to make work of scale and substance, and to enable public weaving and community engagement, I need to have a large professional tapestry loom. I have been granted funding which covers half the cost of purchase and transportation of this loom, but need to raise the rest by the end of September. I have two exhibition locations confirmed to exhibit a finished piece ('Shrine') in 2017-2018, and expect to be able to add more.
The maquette version of 'Shrine' is currently exhibited. Work in progress can be seen on my blog http://half understood.blogspot.com. 'Shrine' represents the first piece in an envisaged series of large woven monuments, to be created over the next five years. Any funds raised beyond the target will be used to buy the yarns to weave with.
