Close your eyes. It may be hard to imagine, but what would you miss if you lost your sight? Would it be waking up to the faces of your nearest and dearest in the morning? Or perhaps catching the sun set on your drive home from work? We can open our eyes again and re gain our sight.
Over 19,000 visually impaired people in Cornwall can't, and it’s those 19,000 we want to help.
After cuts made by Cornwall Council, Cornwall Blind Association is now £32,000 short on their funding for Talking Support and counselling services. We at MPAD, want to lend a hand.
So we’re taking on the Take £50 Challenge.
The Take £50 Challenge
The 160 year old charity have given £50 to a number of local businesses and set the grand task of transforming it into £500 in 50 days.
However, we want to go one better and take that £50 and transform it into £2000.
Counselling and Talking Support
Visual impairment is a very real and isolating disability. It can affect every area of your life: your self-esteem, relationships and relationships can all suffer.
An often overlooked aspect of vision loss is the emotional and mental adjustment many people will experience after being diagnosed. Acknowledging and eventually coming to terms with the impact that diminishing eyesight can have on daily life is a difficult process with reactions to the diagnoses often compared to bereavement. As a result, episodes of depression along with a wealth of other mental illnesses are all too common.
Having a strong social support system is vital to finding hope and the counselling and talking support services provided by Cornwall Blind association can help unearth that optimism.
These critical services offer emotional and practical advice to some of the most vulnerable people in society, helping them stay in touch with the outside world. In many cases this can be their only form of support and it can provide people suffering with sight loss someone to talk to when there may be no one else to understand.
They are the only Cornish charity that helps provide counselling especially for the visually impaired, which is why this campaign is of such great importance. We need to to secure the funding to prevent these services from joining the list of casualties created by the cuts made countrywide.

MPAD think that crowdfunding could be the perfect platform to rally round the support of the crowd and not let funding cuts affect the lives of those suffering from sight loss.
We need you, your friends and your friends’ friends to help us catapult this £50 into the vital support needed by so many who are affected by visual impairment in Cornwall.
