I have played with Swinton and District Excelsior Band since 1981 and it has been a major part of my life. I met my husband Stephen in the band and we have been married for 33 years. For many years we have both been involved with the training band, teaching individuals, taking groups, organising activities and taking the training band out to perform. I don’t know how many individuals we’ve had through the band but many have gone on to play with other bands throughout the world. We want to raise money for the new banners to give the training band their own identity and for them to feel proud of what they have achieved. My first challenge is for savoury January which means no sweets, chocolate, pudding or hot chocolate. For those that know what a sugarholic I am will appreciate how difficult this is going to be!
