SWeet! Recorder Consort CIC has been delighting audiences with our highly skilled and unique live performances since 2013. But, in common with all arts organisations, we have been devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our 30 talented and dedicated students, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds, have been robbed of the chance to rehearse and perform together for seven months. We are still holding lessons and classes on Zoom, but owing to the delay on video conferencing software, it has been impossible for students to play their instruments with any other person in real time since March 2020.
Seven months - not being able to rehearse or perform with each other, feeling like their SWeet! family is fragmenting, wondering if they are losing the strong community connection which SWeet! has always provided.
SWeet! is now raising funds for a special project designed to bring our young people together in a common aim, and help each to feel an invaluable part of the team again. With permission from the publishers, we have made an arrangement of the Radiohead song No Surprises, and everyone is learning their own part for home recording in the next few weeks. The individual contributions will then be cut together to create a split screen video, which we will distribute via our YouTube channel and our other social media. We are keen to do the young people justice - to reward their hard work with the highest production values - and to do this we need to raise around £600.
Will you be able to help us? If just 60 people were each able to donate £10, we can make a video SWeet! students will feel proud of, and which their hard work and commitment deserve.
