Following the closure of the local children's centre playgroup in our village, I decided that it was a vital community group that the village just couldn't be without. I therefore started Sweeney Toddlers in September of this year. I have set it up as a not for profit community group and am running it on a purely voluntary basis. My intention is to make it as interactive as possible, with parents and members of the community helping with ideas and the general running of the group and activities.
Whilst the majority of weeks will be a free play session for the children and adults to come together to relax, play, socialise and chat. I fully intend for some weeks to have more structure with craft, music & dance and story telling sessions as well. The group is for all pre-school age children (birth to 4 years) and their parents/guardians.
I feel that this sort of environment is not only extremely important for the children as they learn to socialise, share and make friends but also for the adults that bring them. These early years are wonderful but can also be challenging so it is a great way for the adults to share ideas and stories, support each other and help to tackle loneliness.
