We are trying to raise £10,000 to build a boxing gym. We have been given the land and now need money to fund the project.

by Lauren Hamerston in Swanage, England, United Kingdom

Myself and my wife have been running a Boxing Club for young people for a few years.  We are a young and vibrant couple, I am a scaffolder and my wife owns her own salon and we both work hard.  We run the Boxing Gym for non-profit as we feel it is vital for the youth within the community.

Any profits go into free sessions, new equipment and aiding the kids with gloves and essentials.

We are hardworking and believe the fitness, discipline, focus and drive they install into the kids helps to inspire them, keep them fit and off the street corners, gives them a huge sense of belonging and determination.

This has been so effective that the South West News filmed an item on the kids supporting good willing local communities.  We have had to vacate the free space we have been using but luckily we have been offered a FREE small plot of land at the SWANAGE FOOTBALL GROUND to build a boxing gym so that we can continue to train and inspire, as long as we fund it ourselves.  We have approached the National Lottery but were rejected so we are asking all local businesses to help.

We have had a generous response so far.  Local builders have offered free labour, a window company has donated all windows and doors, we are awaiting a response from Travis Perkins for help with materials.

We are currently fundraising to raise as much money as possible and so far:

We have held a cake sale at our sons school.

Sam is completing 7 half marathons in 7 days.
