To create an all weather Golden Mile track to allow the children to take part in daily exercise, encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.

We would love to improve our school's sport facilities, with the introduction of a running track for use by our children as well as the local community.

We are looking for funds to create an all-weather running track around the perimeter of the school field to be used for the 'golden mile' which the children run or walk each school day. At present, the golden mile is problematic in the colder, wetter months and often has to be postponed. We want to be able to run this event each school day, regardless of the weather. This not only promotes and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle but helps to get the children ready for a day of learning.

The Golden Mile is about encouraging everyone to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, irrespective of ability, and involves all pupils whether they walk, jog or run the mile. To be able to do this within the safety of the school grounds, regardless of weather, would be fantastic.

Our primary school alone could complete nearly 80,000 miles a year if pupils had the ability to take part in the Golden Mile on each available school day.

In future, we would also love to provide new all weather courts on the school grounds for tennis and other sports. One step at a time though.

The all weather track would be used during school time for the children, as well as being made available for community use outside of these times. The school is located in a village with very little in the way of sports facilities for the children and community to make use of. The school did manage to fund, through grants and fundraising, a new swimming pool but we would love to develop our facilities to a greater extent for our 420 pupils as well as the local community. The parish of Sutton-at-Hone and Hawley had a population of 4230 in the 2011 Census.

The project is our main priority over the coming 18 months with much of our fundraising going towards this. We are dedicated to improving the facilities available for the school and the community and are putting on a number of community events to raise funds. A great community exists in Sutton-at-Hone and this would be a beneficial asset for all.

We have already started engaging with companies to obtain quotes and plans for work and have clear support for this project within the school and wider community.

We want to have facilities that the children are excited about and proud of. We want children to be able to get out and make use of our school field, regardless of the weather, with the many benefits that daily exercise will bring. We also want the community to benefit from better facilities, bringing everyone together with the aim of a healthier future for all.
