The Preschool offers childcare from 7:45am – 6pm Monday to Thursday, including a breakfast club and afterschool club. We provide a fun, safe and secure environment where children can learn through play. No two days in Preschool are ever the same as children select from the provided activities designed specifically for them to inspire, develop skills and to interest them.
Years of government underfunding and increasing costs have left us struggling. We are solely responsible for all our costs, including utility bills, rent, insurance, etc. The introduction of employer’s pension commitments and increases in the minimum wage have further squeezed our Preschool’s funds. While we generate some income from our Breakfast and Afterschool Club fees, the income we receive for the 15 “free” hours childcare that every 3 year old is entitled to, is paid by the Council. The level the Council pays this at does not cover our costs, leaving us losing money hour on hour, week on week. To break even we need to raise £8,000 in fundraising this year.
The Preschool is such a unique childcare provider. It is staffed with local people, many of whom have known the children since birth, and go on to watch them become school children. Having that personal, long term contact is so valuable. It also anchors the children into our Bradninch community. We as a community support them and they belong. The Preschool smoothes the transition to school, meaning the children start school with their friends. It also prepares children for school, in an environment where they learn through play, giving them the best possible start in life.
