New Tottenham Singers Armistice Day concert

Support Tottenham's local community choir and their 2018 Concert of Remembrance, in honour of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day.

We did it!

On 3rd Feb 2018 we successfully raised £390 with 11 supporters in 49 days

New Tottenham Singers are an eclectic and creative community choir dedicated to promoting high-quality music that is accessible to all, and positively representing the Tottenham community through musical performance.

For 2018 we will – with your support – stage a one of a kind public Concert of Remembrance which will pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives in war on the eve of the Armistice Day Centenary.

We believe this Concert of Remembrance, one hundred years after the First World War, would provide an important opportunity for the whole community to reflect on our gratitude to all those who fought and continue to fight for our society’s communal peace and freedom. We believe that, at a time where isolationism and political separation threatens national and global unity, the power of music can be used to remind us all, regardless of age, political persuasion or cultural background, of our duty to honour those who have gone before by nurturing and actively demonstrating a relationship with our fellow global citizens, placing humanity, compassion and respect above all else to ensure our world never descends into the horrors witnessed during the 20th Century.

Where will the money raised go?

Unlike all other NTS concerts where tickets are sold in the hope of recouping the production expenses we believe this performance should be free of charge to all those who wish to attend. Our proposed venue, one of the largest appropriate performance spaces in Tottenham, has the capacity to welcome over 1000 attendees. With your support, we will be in a position to present a programme of British music in celebration of peace that will create a reflective, invocative and emotionally inspirational experience for the wider Tottenham community in recognition of this important historical landmark.

Our history

The New Tottenham Singers (NTS) was established in November 2010 with the purpose of making high level choral singing available to all and, in so doing, actively and positively representing the Tottenham community through musical performance. The current membership is around fifty choristers and includes both experienced, musically literate choral singers alongside those with no prior exposure who are accessing ensemble vocal music for the first time. In order to preserve this inclusive access, membership fees are purposefully kept as low as possible, reflecting the financial realities often experienced by residents of a deprived area such as Tottenham, and, as a result, NTS has developed a reputation over the last seven years for producing consistently high quality performances and inventive programming, whilst maintaining a non-audition, open door policy with regard to membership.

NTS boasts an eclectic repertoire, incorporating standard traditional choral repertoire such as the Rutter Gloria and Mozart and Fauré Requiems in addition to collaborating with other organisations such as the Royal Court Theatre to produce more contemporary work. The choir’s musical range encompasses Jazz, Pop, Musical Theatre and liturgical music,

In additional to regular seasonal concerts, previous special performances have included entertaining at the Mayor of Haringey’s Charity Gala in 2017, a selection of contemporary Gospel material performed at the 2016 Broadwater Farm Family Gospel Festival to raise funds for the Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Project; and an invitation to sing Choral Evensong at Merton College, Oxford in July 2014 to celebrate the college’s 750th anniversary to name but a few of its many projects.

We maintain connections with local musical organisations to secure musicians as required and regularly work with the Haringey Music Service, developing a collaboration which has provided the Borough’s ensembles with the opportunity to perform a wide variety of large-scale productions and concerts, and has increased access to major choral works for the young instrumentalists of the Haringey Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. Membership of The New Tottenham Singers requires commitment, dedication and hard work from all choristers, which allows the musical standards to continue to develop and improve in conjunction with the ambition of the organisation.
