WHY ARE WE CROWDFUNDING?
The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating affect on the theatre industry and particularly on small, artist led collaborations like us here at Tessa Bide Productions.
We have had a lot of work cancelled this year, including a whopping 28 date tour of 'The Anarchist's Mobile Library', a tour of our popular adaptation of 'The Selfish Giant' to the Puppet Animation Festival Scotland and the development period of a new Christmas show, 'The Magic Snow Globe'. This has caused a significant loss to our yearly income, as well as not being able to offer work to freelancers in the sector and not being able to perform theatre for countless children and their families.
At a time where we can’t visit theatres, or make new work, we’ve been pulling together a programme of digital content to keep connected with our audiences. This has ranged from puppetry workshops to interviews with theatre professionals to streaming our popular children's shows online. We have offered this all for free.
But now, we need some help to keep going.
We are raising funds to support a bigger and braver project: to turn our recent show ‘The Anarchist’s Mobile Library’ into a digital, interactive, audio adventure! We are excited by the opportunity to deliver a truly imaginative and immersive experience for children ages 5-11 on a digital platform. This project will be available to audiences across the UK and internationally, reaching families who have not had the opportunity to experience arts during lockdown. We see this project touring to schools, libraries and community groups putting children in the drivers seat and asking them to make the decisions. It will empower them to make decisions and be in control of their destinies, at a difficult, disempowering time.
‘The Anarchist’s Mobile Library’ will take you on an incredible audio adventure that YOU choose, solving problems and meeting characters, from anywhere you choose to play! With many different worlds to explore, where will your adventure take you? Perhaps an intergalactic space adventure? Or a deep-sea swim, meeting creatures that lurk in the depths? Or even an abandoned witch’s kitchen, with the cauldron bubbling away?
We believe this project will give children a theatrical experience from their home or school, while helping with their listening skills and imaginations. While the future of theatre is uncertain, we are certain that children will want to create their own stories time and time again, and we hope our new project will engage families and children we haven’t been able to reach before.
WHAT YOU CAN DO?
We know this is a hard time for everyone, and asking for money is not something we usually do, but we hope that enough people giving a small amount can help us create a project that has longevity way into the future.
So, if you have ever seen one of our shows, attended one of our workshops, or come to one of our sharings of new work in development, please do consider making a donation. If you have never heard of us, or wanted to come along to a show but never had the time, please consider donating to a small theatre company who hopes to make work for families for years to come.
