New stretch target

Hintonburg Pottery Studio would like to create 'Take Out'  Clay Kits for clients who are isolated during the pandemic, for homeschooled children needing to express their artistic ideas, and for many other groups who are looking for a satisfying and creative outlet to bring some peace of mind during this time of isolation from our friends and loved ones. We want to create videos, clay kits, and resources for this project. The overwhelming response to continuing our fundraiser has encouraged us to keep working on our goals! Thank you!

A Community Creating Together.

Hintonburg Pottery opened in the spring of 2012 and is a little treasure nestled in Ottawa, Canada, featuring the works of over 20 local and regional potters. Our studio offers classes, workshops, special events, private bookings and seasonal camps for all levels, abilities and ages.

Experienced potters are welcome to become a member and make their independent work. Our light-filled studio is staffed with professional clay technicians to support the studio members, who bring creative and inspiring energy into our space!

Our loyal patrons have played an important role in growing our business to date, which has enabled us to reinvest in our vision of a community creating together, in the form of fundraisers for our local food bank, the Parkdale Food Centre and The Youth Services Bureau, through open house events. We also offer complimentary creative classes for disadvantaged groups and individuals.

We're a gathering place for so many seeking a space to retreat from the day-to-day stresses of life. Inside our walls, barriers are broken down through supporting one another's creative journey. The treasure in here goes beyond the clay and reaches deeper inside of who we are.

Pottery during the pandemic.

As COVID-19 unfolded, our bustling studio shuttered abruptly in March and all staff were laid off. It was a devastating day. The waiting began as we all watched the news until we could receive permission to begin operating safely again under evolving health and safety measures.

We adapted by creating an online shop with contactless, curbside pickup, spent many long hours re-envisioning the space and brainstorming how we could continue the vision post-pandemic.

Gradually, we're permitted to bring back staff and begin the task of rebuilding our studio to accommodate the guidelines required by Public Health Officials. We've reached out to students to reschedule classes that were suspended. It will take many more weeks to continue rebuilding.

We are grateful for your support to date.

Thank you for shopping local, supporting our creative community and small business during these times.

You've cheered us on via our social media posts, emailed and called us to check in, tuned into our interview with CTV News Ottawa, purchased handmade pottery from our online shop, waved at us through our window display during curbside pickup and booked into our limited classes and camps as soon as we released them.

Your support has ensured we can continue to bring our staff, technicians and teachers back into the studio, keep our plants watered (which have been thriving this whole time in their clay containers!) in this beautiful light-filled creative space during these difficult times.

Help us keep our kilns firing in 2020.

To reopen, we've had to invest in and adapt our business to ensure the health and safety of our patrons:

  • Due to physical distancing requirements, we've decreased all of our class sizes.
  • We've limited the number of studio members in our space at one time.
  • An extra communal room (the 'cabin'), where we once gathered for informal meet-and-greets and class discussions, is now closed until further notice.
  • Our staff and teachers are spending additional time sanitizing the workspaces for students.
  • We've created an online shop with contactless payment and curbside pickup but the work continues as we continue to add items and improve our online presence.

But our kilns still need to be fired with your magical creations–they require regular feeding with clay works!

We’re reaching out to you for your support to help us do what we do best – get our community creating together (safely) again.

Our minimum goal is $6000 to help us cover our monthly costs as we transition our business. However, any contribution you can make–even if it is through sharing this campaign through your networks or word of mouth–is appreciated and will help ensure we can sustain Hintonburg Pottery as a creative space for the community to thrive within.

In exchange for your generous donation, we have several reward items and experiences available for you to use now or in future as we reopen with additional offerings.

We'll be donating five per cent (5%) of all proceeds raised through this crowdfunding campaign directly to the Parkdale Food Centre. Their mission is to build healthier, more connected neighbours and neighbourhoods through good food, innovative community partnerships, and by challenging inequalities in order to create lasting impacts. Thank you for your time, consideration and encouragement to date. We exist because of your valued support and we hope to continue being a strong part of this amazing community for many years to come.

Stay safe, stay well, we look forward to seeing you in the studio with us creating beauty during a time when we can all use a lift.
