Our board of trustees consists of Phillip Wilson who is the Chair, Chris Buckley, Lauren Johnson and myself, Tracy Wilson, secretary and treasurer. We also have some lovely volunteers.
We are passionate about what we do, which is to provide a safe place for the ethnic minorities of Hull and to provide them with the skills needed to integrate into the community and to develop their English skills so that they can access daily activities such as shopping, contacting the NHS, and dealing with the council etc.
We would use this funding to keep in contact with our current centre users and reach out to new people to signpost them to the relevant organisations and to check up on people who are isolated, for example, we have a French speaking refugee who lives in a sheared house with flatmates who do not speak English or French.
The BAME community has been disproportionately affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and they are the majority of our centre users, so we already have links in the community. We would be able to fund a dedicated phoneline and an online service with the money we raise. We would be able to provide care packages for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
