To continue 5aSide's commitment to creating a conversation about mental health through theatre.

by Ianthe Bathurst in London, England, United Kingdom

5aSide Theatre are an all-female theatre collective from South West London and are a Lyric Hammersmith Next Generation company. Our Edinburgh 2018 show, Side Effects premiered to full audiences - a huge achievement for our inaugural production.

"Touching, funny, real.

"A moving, thought provoking play, written and performed with feeling, humour and lightness of touch. A fringe must."

"Brilliant bitesized theatre. Seriously good. Warm, funny, moving."

"Hard hitting and poignant sprinkled with a touch of humour. A conversation starter on an awkward and touchy subject."

We are taking our new show, Sugar Mice written by Hector McCormick, to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019.

Sugar Mice explores the effects of loneliness in the big city, exploring themes of isolation and alienation on mental health.

'Al is lonely. Not a temporary or recent loneliness, a long slog of loneliness. Al isn’t actually alone how-ever. A therapist come confidant come philosopher called ‘Mouse’ is Al’s only ally. Mouse is just that…a mouse. More accurately a mouse anthropomorphised inside Al’s head. Al has come to rely on the guidance and comfort that Mouse provides but as Al’s world starts to expand there’s less and less room for Mouse…'

However, we need to raise £3,000 to cover venue hire, production costs, marketing (flyers and posters) and travel expenses. So if you are interested in our project and would like to help us out then please help us reach our target. We would be be extremely grateful no matter how big or small the donation. The price of a pint is all it takes.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and see you at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019!!
