Bromley Mencap Community Hub

Extra funding for a community hub in Bromley

We caught up with Jane Barnes, project owner for Bromley Mencap's Community Hub, helping them to raise over £20,000, including £10,000 of extra funding from Trust For London and City Bridge Trust.

Why did you decide to Crowdfund?

We had a fantastic project that need a lot of funding and needed the community to help and support us.

What does the funds raised mean for your project?

These funds mean that we can finalise the building work that needed to be done in order to make the building functional.

How is crowdfunding different from how you normally finance or fundraise for projects?

Crowdfunding is a way to connect with the community that may not necessarily have links with the charity.

What will you use the money for and what has happened since you hit your crowdfunding target?

The funds have been used to complete building work and make an empty, derelict house in to a functional community hub for disabled people.

What would be your top tips for others considering crowdfunding?

To make sure you spread the word through your networks as much as possible.

You received a £10,000 pledge from Crowdfunder's funding partners The City Bridge Trust and Trust for London. How did you find the grant application process via Crowdfunder?

A simple and accessible process
