I have been passionate about dance music events since I was 14, first attending local underage rave 'Maybugs mayhem' in Axminster, narrowly and unfortunately missing out on the era of the Country Club, I cut my teeth attending Club Diversity and Atmosphere nights at the Grove in Seaton. In 2010 I decided to throw my own events, VIBE @ The Beehive in Bridport, a mix of hard trance, drum and bass, and house music into a 200 capacity building at the back of a football ground. These were successful and I continued them for a few years.
I moved to Dublin in May 2011, and continued with Sales until I met an MC who introduced me to a Club (Twisted Pepper) in Thomas Street who threw dance and hardcore nights, and I played there for about a year before again, moving onto Bristol. Bristol was extremely fun, and although I didnt have any gigs or events there I was always attending them, and having some wicked house parties in my flat on Gloucester road.
Moving back to Dorset has been a tough one, the opportunities are certainly limited compared to other places, and there is a dire need for decent entertainment and ideas, there is a huge community spirit which is being left unutilised. This is why I have started Submerge Events.
I think Submerge can create a real buzz in this area, and bring back the dance all nighter 'draw' that it used to have. People from as far as Leeds would travel to see small events in Bridport, and the more it happens the beter they get.
We have already put this into action.
On Saturday 15th Feb, we gave the area a DJ exclusive; Nicky Blackmarket.
Nicky has been a jungle/drum and bass pioneer since the early 90's and owned his own Record store 'Blackmarket Records' in Soho, London. There he (along with others) helped to create the Jungle/Drum n Bass sound from sampled breakbeat.
We decided he would be the perfect headliner for our Launch party.
We have spared no expense in delivering a premier dance all nighter, and we delivered.
However in these infancy stages, we struggle with getting the right people, venues, affordability and promotional clout some other events have worked hard to achieve. More so than ever, we need your help. This is a seed with a lot of promise, however unless given the right foundations it will prove fruitless.
