A brief introduction

Studio 4 (previously 4FS) is a community youth dance group that was set up in 2008 by the talented Alice Walker with the aim to make dance accessible to all. We want to challenge our young people and to give them opportunities to be creative and realise their potential.  Last year we celebrated our 10 year anniversary.

Since starting in 2008 many students have gone on to study at some of the most renowned dance schools in the Country including Wilkes Academy, Northern School of Contemporary Dance and Plymouth University.

'One of the best things about this work is to see the young people beginning to believe in themselves, and develop in confidence.  Whether they go on to study dance, or use these skills in other ways they learn life long lessons about supporting and encouraging each other, and the values of hard work and respect.' Alice Walker, Founder of Studio 4

What is the Studio 4 On Tour Project?

Studio 4 have applied through a competitive process and have been successful in auditioning to perform on stage in the Smile Espanol festival in 2019.  This gives our young people the opportunity to travel to Spain for 5 days, perform on stage in Spain, and to train with European dance coaches in Barcelona.  Some of the young people going on tour have not experienced performing on a large stage, and have certainly not performed in Europe.  This is an amazing opportunity for 5 of our talented dancers.

How will your support help?

The trip is being funded by the dancers themselves through personal money and other  fundraising opportunities.  This crowdfunder is to help pay for additional studio time and teachers both in this country, and in Barcelona to ensure that the team represent and showcase Studio 4, themselves and Cornwall's dance talent to their absolute best.

  • It will:                                                                                                            Allow more studio time for the dancers to work with each other and hone their routine                                                                                                          Enable more input from creatives and choreographers to ensure that the team have a really strong show case piece                                                                   Contribute to studio access and creative in put in Barcelona. Making this a truly exceptional opportunity

The benefits speak for themselves.....

'I've recently arrived back from a youth exchange in Latvia on behalf of 4FS. I can't thank Alice enough for this wonderful and challenging experience. Getting together with different cultures and living a different lifestyle for 9 days was incredible. I wouldn't have thought of going on a youth exchange ever so without 4FS amazing opportunities I wouldn't have done it. I have so much respect for Alice and would do anything for her. Working with the group these past few months has been fab and can't wait to work with them again soon. To see young children and teenagers have so much fun and to have so much passion in the work they do with Alice is so nice to watch knowing that they are like this because of Alice's hard work and determination. I can't express enough how privileged I am to work with 4FS. So Thank you!'

More about us

The main base for our company 4FS is in Cornwall but we do project work across the UK and Europe sharing our ethos and bringing people together. We work alongside the Youth Service, funders and artists across the UK to make our projects as cheap as we can, free where possible. We work with well-known artists that have the same passion for dance, ( hip hop & street ) and are able to give young people professional and accessible opportunities through dance workshops.  These artists are diverse and bring with them not only their experience but their own cultural aspects that show the young people we work with our anti-discriminatory and non-judgmental policy which we feel is essential.

We aim to give young people confidence through dance, challenge them, give them an opportunity to be creative and realise their true potential. We want to show the learners they are capable of amazing things if they challenge and believe in their selves.

If you are looking for Dance company to learn hip hop and street dance in Cornwall we are your team...

4FS  work with anybody; no levels of dance are required and remember:

“If you forget the move…..JUST GROOVE!”

For the past 4 years my daughter has been dancing with 4FS, initially with dance days and workshops, which has now grown into being a member of team and company (competitions and performance based).

We have watched her grow from a shy child into a confident, happy teenager.  Alice and Jack provide something very special, their energy and passion for dance and the dedication and support for each and every child/teenager that dances with them, shines through.

I can't recommend 4FS highly enough, my daughter would spend every day dancing with them if she could!!
