Sunday marks the 32nd annual National Coming Out Day. Every year we celebrate members of the LGBT+ community everywhere for coming out and being themselves. This year, Strathclyde are asking students everywhere to show their support this National Coming Out Day (11th October 2020) by joining our 5km rainbow run and raising money for LGBT Youth Scotland!
National Coming Out Day celebrates the act of “coming out”- when a member of the LGBT+ community tells their friends and family about their sexual orientation or gender identity. Coming out is a big, beautiful moment and the world gets a little bit brighter when someone is able to express who they truly are. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to come out safely and in an accepting place. LGBT Youth Scotland is trying to change that. They provide 13-25 year olds with support groups, advice and push for inclusion within schools and universities.
That’s why it’s important for everyone to do their bit! Get involved this National Coming Out by simply donating £2 and run, walk, swim or cycle a minimum of 5km on Sunday 11th October.
With the current COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to physically be together this Sunday but we would love to see what you get up to! Snap a picture of your 5k run, walk, swim or cycle and post with the #StudentsRainbowRun and tag us @strathclydewomenshockey @strathsports @strathlgbtplus
