To improve the lives of as many street cats in the municipality of Rethymno as possible.

by Rethymno Animal Welfare - RAW in Greece

Over 40 years ago in Rethymno a group of friends would help and support each other concerning animals in need. This was before the internet, social media, mobile phones and most importantly, before there were any vets in Rethymno. Luckily for us, one of our group had studied biology, so she was able to guide us when we honestly didn’t have any clue to caring for newborn puppies and kittens. There was no Google when an animal was hurt or had skin problems or couldn’t breathe or was in pain!!!

So, now, 2019, we are still facing the on-going problem of too many unwanted animals. Experience has proven that the only solution is neutering to help get this problem under control. Together with education on Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) things hopefully are beginning to change. Our focus has always been and continues with neutering and the education of animal owners on Responsible Ownership. As we all know, all stray unwanted animals originate from owned pets.

We are a very small team of volunteers and we are not government funded. Other than fundraising events which we organize locally, funding and support has come from animal welfare groups as well as the many individuals and groups who have believed in our work and have donated to help. Towards this on-going project GAR - Greek Animal Rescue (UK) funded in 2018 and they have agreed to accept the donations on our behalf.

You will be able to see updates of this programme on the Facebook page Rethymno Animal Welfare - RAW.

Thanking you all in advance for your help.
