My name is Bob, I'm a member of the Stalbridge Hall committee were we intend to build the Petanque terrain. I believe Stalbridge needs an amenity that suits all ages and abilities, where the community can play and socialise together.
My vision is to create a space where the community can congregate, partake in a leisurely activity and is inclusive of all ages and disabilities. In our very rural community loneliness can be a big issue and the aim to bring people from the surrounding areas together.
We need roughly £4,000 which would allow us to build and landscape the area. We will need to excavate the land, put in a under layer of tightly compacted stone with a layer of granite grit on top to create the playing surface. The space needs to be surrounding with boarding 8 inches (20cm) high as a safety measure and to maintain the integrity of the playing surface.
We will need to include plans to make the area suitable for people with physical disabilities as we want to make this as accessible as possible for everyone to be able to use.
As we intend to build this to a high standard i hope this will encourage local clubs to visit the area to use the new facilities, as well as those at our village hall. The terrain will be available to use by both the public and paying clubs and will make a great new addition to the activities on offer in our community.
