I am passionate about using drama and theatre skills to develop expressive and self-confident young people of all ages and abilities. Many schools are no longer including drama in the curriculum, particularly in primary schools, but research has recognised the intrinsic value of drama as a platform for character building, by improving young people’s self-esteem, speaking and listening abilities, and teamwork skills.
Stagezone Youth Theatre will provide the perfect opportunity to explore a young person’s creativity, and achieve a sense of accomplishment, in a safe, supportive and fun environment.
Stagezone will use money raised to fund the cost of setting up the group, including a regular venue hire and T-shirts. Once established, Stagezone would like to be able to donate money to local charities/groups for young people, with a similar ethos. Also, Stagezone would like to be able to cover the travel cost of additional adults sharing their skills with the young people, including dance and singing.
I previously voluntarily ran a youth drama group for Truro Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, but I feel the time is now right to continue and further my knowledge and abilities, by setting up and running my own group, which focuses on increasing confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills, and developing talent in drama and theatre.
