Project aim

To establish a permanent base for our fantastic surf life saving club by converting twelve unused chalets on Porthmeor Beach, St Ives into our very own clubhouse. Our club is vital to provide life savers of the future to act as guardians of the surf for locals and holidaymakers alike in our small coastal community - and across the globe!

About the project

Established in 1958, St Ives Surf Life Saving Club (Charity no. 1068397) is an integral part of our local community, enabling local children to develop water and surf safety skills. Using fun activities young people develop confidence and competence, both in and out of the water. And it's not just children - people of all ages join in too.

We all love to surf, swim, run and have fun

We now have a unique opportunity to establish a permanent base by converting twelve unused chalets on Porthmeor Beach into our very own clubhouse.

We plan to extend and renovate these chalets to create a clubhouse incorporating changing areas and a store for lifesaving equipment. The club currently has no facilities and members change on the beach whatever the weather! And we've several hundred of them. A clubhouse will not only give the surf life savers of St Ives a permanent base it will also provide a great asset for St Ives as a community and tourist destination, where safety in the water is paramount to locals and visitors alike.

Our plans are to convert the existing chalets so they look like this:

Whilst we need well over £100,000 for this project, the proceeds from this crowdfunder plus what we already have will enable us to make a great start and will set us in great stead to obtain grant funding for the remainder.

A massive thanks to all our backers! Without their support we couldn't pull this off.

The club has received some awesome support from local businesses and individuals over the years. Whether they have supported our annual Biathlon, our other fundraising events, this campaign, or in so many cases all of these, we are extremely grateful. The local community has really pulled together reflecting the importance of the club to the community - and it to us.
